The three things mentioned in the title are not necessarily related. I just felt like lumping everything into one post.
On why my school’s administration plots against me
When I didn’t take the AP Calculus test with everyone else on Tuesday, I was telling my teachers that it was mainly my fault for paying late, and therefore, I have to take the later version of the test on May 20th. However, I learned from Mr. MeCouch later that it wasn’t my fault! Sure, I paid after the deposit date but before the final date. Paying late would have meant after the final date, but I heard of someone who paid late, was charged a late fee, but was still able to take the test. Supposedly, when I paid for my tests, the administration oh so conveniently left my name off of the list of registered students. Mr. MeCouch said that if he didn’t notice that my name wasn’t on the list just in the nick of time, I would have had to take all of my tests late! Luckily, I get to take AP Biology, AP Physics C, AP English, and AP European History with everyone else. I take AP Calculus BC and AP Chemistry on May 20th.
On the AP English test
So I took the AP English Literature and Composition test today and was relieved when I realized that I could actually understand (somewhat) the readings on the test! When I was reading the Princeton Review book and taking some of the practice tests that Mr. Connelly gave the class, I was worried about the difficulty of the readings. No matter how I looked at it, I just could not understand certain phrases in the readings! But I was able to finish the multiple choice section on the real test with about five minutes to spare so I went back and checked a few things over. The composition part was alright too. Luckily, I was reading Blake’s The Chimney Sweeper yesterday night so I was able to bring some of my outside knowledge into my essay. The second essay wasn’t bad either. When the third prompt was geared towards a novel like 1984, I was pretty happy except that when I started to write the third essay, I lost the sense of where I was going and wrote some horrible paragraphs. So, if I can manage a four on the test, I consider myself a happy fellow.
Consequently, I meant to study for the test all of yesterday but found myself playing Super Mario themes on the piano. It was fun, but I only managed about an hour of study total.
On being stupid
I have this problem of forgetting things very easily. Perhaps I’m going senile or something, but here’s the story for today:
Trisha invited me to her table to take the AP English test, and when she tried to get me to go on the Orchestra Six Flags trip, I deferred to the abilities of the other second violinists: “Well, you have Amber and…the girl who sits behind me…” I forgot her name! Now, when I think of it, the answer is easy: Val. But at the time, I couldn’t remember.
After the test, I was walking to the attendance office to sign out when I saw the Acorn group (they are a mafia-like group who terrorize the school and demand protection money frequently). Knowing that Christina and Carli expressed interest in attending the Physics review session, I started to say: “Uh, hi, are any of you, well, I suppose you (meaning Christina) and …” I forgot Carli’s name! While I was there feeling pretty dumb, luckily, they understood what I had meant and answered my question.
Now, what’s my problem? Sometimes, I can speak and recall things perfectly fine, and then at other times, I can’t remember a name and can only speak in commas. Weird.
