Well, the Science Fair today was a little exhausting mainly because I had nothing to do. Strangely, when I’m not doing anything, I become tired. If I’m doing work or something interesting, I somehow get more energy.
I think Computer Science was underappreciated at the science fair. I was only judged once and there didn’t seem to be any special award judges for regular computer science. Although I was competiting against 6 other students in my category, some of them were really impressive. One student had access to PCB board manufacturing devices and constructed small “social” robots that could interact with each other. He also had a plasma screen built into his display board (My display board consisted of a few pieces of paper hastily thrown together in about a half hour) and a metal briefcase. A student next to me who I knew through PGSS had a project with artificial life where he created a simulation much like the Avida system used by researchers. I knew I could speak at length about my project since I did everything by myself with no outside help, but my judges ran out of questions to ask very quickly and decided to move on. I wasn’t sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing.
Despite winning a category award, I’m almost certain I did not place first or second. I think I might have 3rd place or an honorable mention. Not too shabby at least.
I finished the research paper for the project…this morning ^^;;;. However, I would like to touch it up a bit before posting it on this site.
