7th grade episodes: Camp Speers & Eljabar

Note: This was how I wrote in 7th grade. There are many noticeable mistakes which I am not going to change.

Sorry, no pictures.

The school camping trip started on May 3, 2000 (I had to pay $119 bucks). I spent a whole night packing and yelling at my mom because she won’t stop stuffing clothes into my duffle bag (Sheeh…I’m only staying for 3 days!). So, on May 3 I got up very early at 6 o’clock, ate breakfast, and left for my school with about 50 pounds of clothes at 7:15 AM.

After my mom dropped me off at my school (Drexel Hill Middle School), I made my away to the back of the school where the buses were being held captive. Turns out that MY bus (Oh yeah, they were luxury), number 8 was late! So I waited for a hour until the freakin’ bus came. During that time me and this annoying kid called Matt got into a slap boxing fight (that is you fight, but you slap each other lightly). Since I take Martial Arts I won easily, but I turned around to see my Computer Teacher staring at me! I was embarrassed, because my computer teacher saw me do something wrong, so I stopped fighting with him. He, of course, didn’t stop so I just LET him hit me. Oh yeah, another thing, after me and Matt calmed down we gathered some people and played Uno, but just when we dealed the cards out the bus came.

The bus ride was boring. We watched a boring movie called Twister. I was sitting next to one of my best friends, Eugene (He has a web site: www.eugeneInc.com). He brought some Gaming Magz (Dreamcast, and Nintendo Power) and we were both reading them (There is this weird game called Chu Chu Rocket… and its awesome! Another game I like is Dragonball Z GT that is coming out for Dreamcast). After I’ve read both magizines from cover to cover, me, Matt (Who said we wern’t friends?), and another Matt played Uno. Even though he had cheated, I still won (Yes! I’m awesome at Uno!). After that I spent the rest of my time staring out the window, at the TV, and at the back of the seat. I also read the business section of the Inquire because a was tracking a stock to see if it was any good (The stock in this case is eMachines, forgot the web site, which sells awesome cheap computers. Each share is currently about $7 (5/10/00) and its ticker symbol is EEEE, really easy to remember, hun?). Also I spent a portion of my time fighting to have the windows shades put up because it was getting dark on the bus. Every time I pull the shades up, two girls pull it back down. I eventually won the bout and hijackked the bus (Just kidding!).

Yes! We finally got there! (Well actually we saw the sign that said we were in the camp, but it took the bus another half and hour to get THERE!) Ok, NOW we finally got there. Everybody took their luggage and started trugging to their cabins. The girls were lucky because their cabins were about 50 feet away, but I had to walk about 1/4 of a mile to get to my cabin (Boy… my shoulder was tired when I got to my cabin, I feel really sorry for those people that had a cabin really far away…..). All everybody had time to do was to plop down their barbells (luggage actually….but you’d never know…..) and head to the, ahh..the name slipped my mind.. (Oh yeah the pavillion), well anyway it was a building that had no walls but it had a roof. Every body had to go through a long and boring talk about what the rules are and stuff….. (So that happened around 12:00 PM, it was called Orientation).

Next was lunch at 12:30, they served hogies (Bread roll with two slices of turkey and a small slice of cheese). They were OK…. and we also got salad (Now THAT was good:). Most of the people that sat at my table (12) I did know, except for about 2 kids but I got familliar with them soon. The drink was, I think, fruit punch and it was gone in a minute (because everybody was thrsty). They didn’t let us fill it up until 10 minutes later. After the meal , the people that worked at the camp collected ort. Ort is the left over food that you didn’t eat. The reason that they did that was so people could waste less food or eat all they had gotten. Also the crusier was Joe, and he was slow (the crusier is the person that cleans up after everybody, the job rotates).

Next stop was a long, epic journey to the underwor..I mean the Big Meadow (Around 3:15). There we had a cool, licened falconer teach us about falconry. He brought lots of birds of prey and showed us how they hunted. It was pretty cool. One time he showed us how birds hunted in packs and he had a girl drag a lure across the ground. The birds attacked the girl’s feet while another attacked the lure. The bad thing about that was the ground was wet and if you sit down your butt will get wet, but good thing I brought my poncho. One time the birds landed on electric wires and I was thrown off for a second because I though they would be fried, but amazingly they stayed alive.

My first REEL course was Team Building (Around 4:15). It was led by Christy and Katheern. I was in group B9 and the people in my group were: Paul, Anthony, Eugene, Michelle, Juila, and a bunch of other girls that I forgot their names. First we played a name game were we had to say our name and some words that had the same beginning letter as your name. Examples were: Katheern - Killer Kickboxer in Kuba (Ha, Ha, or somethin like that), Paul - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Anthyony - Attacks Ants in Arkansaw. Mine was Mike - Makes Money in Montana another one could have been Mike - Mows Meadows the Minnasoda. The Team Building couse focoused on using teamwork to get through obsticals. One part of the activity was to help each other get over a wall (So we boost somebody up the wall and he, in turns, helps pull other people up).

Dinner… was at the Pavillion (Around 5:30). At was a BBQ. We had a choice of a chicken burger or a hot dog. I picked the burger and got baked beans with it too. They were both good and I went back for seconds, but I had to get a hot dog because they were out of Chicken Burgers. The camp people there really wanted us to eat their salad, I wonder why………..

After Dinnar (Spelled purposely), from 6:15 - 7:15 there was Recreation. We could do what ever we wanted during that time. I went to play basketball with my friends. The only one who had a ball was Andre, a camp “course teacher”. He was cool and let everybody play. First we were just shooting foul shots, but when more balls came we split off to play Knock Out. The balls we used were too light so I didn’t play that well. Later, when there was less of us, we had a game. That was more fun and exciting. By now, the day was getting dark. Oh yeah, the other team won the game.

Next stop, Square Dancing! (er…..Noooooooooo!) It was from 7:30 - 9:00PM in the Pavillion. First the camp people showed us some partner dancing moves and then they turned to the music and let us dance with a girl! (They invited a old man who was our “DJ”) Me and a LOT of boys didn’t dance. Why? Because we didn’t want to ruin our repuatation! (Actually THEY didn’t want to ruin their repuatation because I already ruined my repuatation a countless number of times. Hey….but I’m still living…….) Anyway….the reasons I didn’t dance was:
-Other people like my friends were not dancing so if I did it I could be made fun of.
-I would ONLY dance with a girl, but since no girl is going to ask me I can’t dance. Anyway, if I had asked a girl, she might get ideas….and that would be verrrrrry bad.

Even though my schedule said it was snack time, we went to make a campfire! (Around 9:00 - 9:30) At first we couldn’t get it started, but then our teacher asked, “Does anybody have any notebook paper?” Everybody got their notebooks and ripped out pages and threw them in the fire. Some kids were yelling (Matt, Joe), “This was my report card!” and “This was the Math test I got a F on!” or “This is the Homework I’m susposed to hand in on Monday!….Oops!”. One kid named Joe started doing crazy things with the fire so Mr. Magee ordered him to sit on the steps and not move.

Then everybody was suspossed to sleep, but no one did. We kept on telling each other to shut up, but no one did. Once, there was a 5 second quiet, but the arguing started again. Finally the sounds died out and people went to sleep. All except me! After everybody went to sleep our chaperones came in. One of them said “S@$#”. I don’t know when I fell asleep, but it was around 2:00 in the morning.

That was my first day! I’m too lazy to write the second and third day. Sorry!
